A British independent film company in Soho, London, with a long history in film production, distribution and sound and picture post-production.
Goldcrest is a British independent film and entertainment company based in London. Wikipedia describes it as a privately owned, integrated company that covers distribution, production, post-production and finance. The post-production side, Goldcrest Post, works on feature films and high-end drama from Soho, offering audio post-production, picture editing, visual effects, colour grading and digital intermediate work (the process of preparing a film for cinema release). Its credits on the post side include Jason Bourne, Carol, American Honey and The Danish Girl.
Jake Eberts founded Goldcrest Films International in January 1977, and the company became known in the early 1980s for films such as Chariots of Fire and Gandhi, which each won the Best Picture Oscar, plus Local Hero, The Killing Fields and A Room with a View. Goldcrest Post opened in Soho in 1982. In the later part of its history the company backed bigger-budget productions and later struggled, and today it has a mixed slate of film and television work. We did not find a written mission statement, so we have not invented one.
Goldcrest's headquarters is in London and its post-production business is in Soho. A trade article from 2014 places the main audio post-production facility on Dean Street and a second site on Lexington Street, both in Soho, and notes a branch in Manhattan. Wikipedia says the company later built what it calls central London's largest purpose-built Dolby Atmos premier sound mixing theatre on Dean Street. Dolby Atmos is a cinema sound system that places sounds all around the audience.
On culture, the sources we read say little directly. The 2014 article shows a company that invested in new equipment, including 4K grading suites and film scanners, and in hiring experienced editors and effects artists to join its existing sound and foley team, whose work had won an Oscar. Wikipedia also describes Soho as a village-like community where companies often hire people from one another, which is typical of this part of London.
Post-production teams include sound editors, foley artists, re-recording mixers, picture editors, colourists, visual effects artists, engineers who keep the equipment running, producers and coordinators, and administrative staff on the production and distribution side. Interests in film, music, sound, computing or electronics can all lead here. The company's website is the place to check current openings.
