A Carlisle-based full fibre broadband provider, founded in 2017, that builds its own network in towns across England, Scotland and Wales.
Grain, also known as Grain Connect, is a broadband provider that builds its own full fibre network, so that homes and businesses get a fibre cable all the way to the building. It was founded in 2017 and its headquarters are in Carlisle in Cumbria. It sells home plans with speeds of up to 2Gbps and also offers broadband to businesses, including business parks, high street firms and landlords. In the ORESA Growth Index for 2025 it ranked 25th among UK companies and it appeared again at 25th in 2026.
Grain's stated aim is to offer fast, reliable broadband at fair prices, with straightforward service and no price rises during the contract. It says it invests in its own fibre rather than relying on older networks. The chief executive is Richard Cameron, who has said the company is proud of the customers it supports. Grain also says it is creating skilled jobs and credits its colleagues and customers for its growth.
The network is built in many separate places rather than one region. In May 2024 it was reported to have reached 58 UK locations, plus 151 new build housing developments, and to have 30,000 customers. Examples named included Leicester, Liverpool, Accrington, Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Scarborough, Carlisle, Barrow-in-Furness, Hartlepool, Newport, Sunderland and Blackburn. Grain says it serves communities in England, Scotland and Wales. In 2024 coverage its plans started at £19.99 a month for 150Mbps and £29.99 for 900Mbps on a 24-month contract, with unlimited usage, free installation and a router included. It also has a social tariff for people on benefits. Those figures are from 2024, so check its coverage checker for the current picture.
We did not find a culture page, a list of values beyond the customer promises above, or a staff count. Grain's public messages stress simple pricing and fairness. Industry coverage in 2024 also noted job losses and a slower build while the company shifted towards a more regional focus, so it is a company still adjusting as it grows.
A company building fibre across many towns needs engineers and field teams, network designers, project and civil works managers, customer support advisers, sales staff for home, business and new-build customers, and finance and data teams. Subjects like engineering, computing, business and geography are all relevant. The Grain website is the place to see what it is currently recruiting for.
