Harvey

A legal AI company, founded in California, that opened a London office in 2024 to serve European law firms.

About Harvey

Harvey is a company that builds artificial intelligence (AI) software for lawyers and other professionals in law, tax and finance. Its tools can draft documents, answer questions about cases, summarise large piles of contracts and emails, and spot conflicts across hundreds of contracts, so that people spend less time on routine reading and more on advice and decisions. Harvey's co-founder Winston Weinberg has said the aim is to 'take care of the routine tasks so professionals can focus their time on client interactions'.

Harvey was started in 2022 by Winston Weinberg, who had been a junior litigation lawyer at the US firm O'Melveny & Myers, and Gabriel Pereyra, who had done AI research at Meta and Google. They began as roommates in an apartment in San Francisco and, by their own account, sent thousands of LinkedIn messages to get lawyers to try the product. OpenAI built a custom case-law model with the company, and Allen & Overy (now A&O Shearman) became its first major client. Harvey is headquartered in the United States, and its careers page lists offices including San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Dallas, London, Singapore and Sydney. Its founders say it now serves more than 1,000 law firms and corporate legal departments, and employs hundreds of people, over a fifth of them lawyers.

We did not find a formal mission statement. The founders describe the goal as making Harvey 'essential infrastructure' for legal work. On 16 September 2024 it announced a London office and hiring in sales, business development, customer success and AI research. A legal technology news site said it then had over 40 customers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including Macfarlanes, Ashurst and CMS.

Products named on its site include Agents, which carry out multi-step legal tasks, and Vault, a secure place to store and work on large sets of documents, alongside tools such as Knowledge, Spaces, Contract Intelligence and Horizon Scanning. Its newsroom names customers and partners including Hogan Lovells Cadwalader, Ogier, TC Energy and GE Aerospace, plus a legal-AI collaboration with Microsoft and a partnership with Legalscape (as at 2026).

Harvey's careers page lists three values: Simplicity, Decisiveness and 'Job's Not Finished' (never being satisfied with how things are). It says its culture is intense and that it hires people who thrive on that. Roles include Legal Engineers, who combine legal knowledge with product work, and sales and customer roles, and it runs recognition and development programmes called Harvey Scholars, Harvey Honors and Raising The Bar. The London roles we found were for experienced people, such as commercial counsel and sales. We found no graduate scheme, apprenticeship or internship, so check harvey.ai/careers for current openings.
