A family-owned media, data and information company behind What Car?, Campaign, Autocar and over 70 specialist brands, with about 1,300 staff worldwide.
Haymarket Media Group is a privately owned "media, data and information company, producing remarkable content for specialist audiences across the world". It runs more than 70 brands, including What Car?, Campaign, PRWeek, Autocar and Management Today, and delivers them through live events, digital, print, education, data, video and audio.
The company says its brands aim to inform, inspire and empower clients and communities internationally. It describes its own change from a traditional print publisher into a media, data and information company, and it shows a Certified B Corporation mark, is regulated by the press regulator IPSO and publishes impact reports. We did not find a longer mission statement.
Haymarket began in 1957 as Cornmarket Press, started by Clive Labovitch and Michael Heseltine, who later became a Cabinet minister and Deputy Prime Minister. It took the Haymarket name in 1967 and became Haymarket Media Group in 2007. Today it is fully family owned. Rupert Heseltine became chairman in December 2022 and Kevin Costello is chief executive. Wikipedia lists its base in Twickenham, west London, and the company says it has offices in the UK, the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Germany.
With about 1,300 employees, the company needs many kinds of people: editors and reporters, data analysts, events producers, video and audio makers, designers, developers and commercial teams. Its content marketing agency Wonderly, launched in 2019, even places editorial teams inside client businesses, for example at Volkswagen Group in Milton Keynes. Professional titles such as Campaign (advertising), PRWeek (public relations) and GP (medicine) give people a way into specialist industries as well as media.
The company also lists a presence in Canada and the Netherlands on its location map. Titles it has sold over the years include motorsport magazines in 2016, and Gramophone, FourFourTwo and What Hi-Fi? between 2013 and 2018, showing how it has focused on specialist audiences. It entered the Indian market in 1999. Haymarket says it supports its audiences in specialist fields, and its B Corp status suggests a focus on responsible business, although these are company claims to explore at interview. For students interested in cars, marketing, health or business, it is an example of how a media company can combine journalism, data and events around one industry.
