The UK arm of the US media group Hearst, publishing magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Elle, Esquire, Women's Health and Men's Health.
Hearst UK is the British publishing arm of the Hearst Corporation, the US media company founded by William Randolph Hearst in 1910. A 2017 trade report named Cosmopolitan, Elle, Esquire and Inside Soap among its UK titles, and Good Housekeeping also appears in coverage. A separate 2022 regulatory statement describes Hearst UK Limited as running three brands, Women's Health, Men's Health and Runner's World, each in print and online, with an average monthly print audience of about 188,655 and digital audience of about 2.36 million in 2022. The two sources describe different parts of the UK business, so check the company's site for the current list.
Hearst UK Limited was formed in 2004 as a joint venture between The National Magazine Company and Rodale Inc. After Hearst Magazines bought Rodale in 2018, it was renamed Hearst UK Limited. We did not find a mission statement from the company. Its press regulator statement describes it as a responsible publisher committed to a "high standard of journalism", with every article fact-checked by a sub-editor and legal training for staff.
In the UK, Hearst's London offices were in Soho and were due to move to LSQ London on Panton Street, Leicester Square, with five floors, in summer 2018. The company said this would bring its London business together under one roof for the first time. Its chief executive then was James Wildman, who said the move showed a long-term commitment to London's West End. We did not find a headcount, and we could not confirm the current office from the pages we read.
As a magazine publisher, Hearst UK needs editors, writers, sub-editors, beauty, fashion and fitness specialists, photographers and video producers, and commercial teams working with advertisers. It also needs legal, finance, marketing, technology and human resources staff. The 2022 statement says the legal team handles complaints, reviews content before publication and gives staff regular training on the Editors' Code, defamation, privacy and contempt of court. Journalists must check facts with reputable sources and record interviews where possible. These role types are general to the industry.
Hearst titles cover fashion, fitness, running and lifestyle, so reading a few across a month shows the range. Check Hearst UK's official website for current information.
