About heliguy

heliguy is a drone company based in North Shields, Tyne and Wear. On its own pages it describes itself as the online retail brand of Colena Ltd. It sells DJI drones, runs what it describes as the UK's largest drone hire fleet, and repairs drones. It also provides training, both online and face to face, including accredited and Ofqual-regulated courses, in-house drone surveying with photogrammetry (turning photos into maps and 3D models) and LiDAR support (laser scanning), and counter-drone systems based on DJI AeroScope, which detects drones in an area. It also advises organisations on adopting drone technology and helps with global logistics and export.

The company began in 2006 as a radio-controlled helicopter specialist in Northumberland, building large RC helicopters capable of computerised autonomous flight before moving into the drone sector. That route, from model helicopters to professional drones, is a good example of how a hobby can turn into a career. Its pages do not name the founders. In its own words, the aim is to raise clients' capabilities through advanced drone technology. It presents itself as a specialist offering more support than the industry average, and it stresses regulatory compliance, safety and helping organisations adopt new drone tools. We did not find a formal values statement beyond this.

Its headquarters is at Orion Business Park in North Shields, in the north east of England. It also runs a site it calls The Triangle, an innovation hub across three buildings with 9,000 square feet of office space, and it states there are more than 35 staff based there. Its pages mention sites and training venues in other parts of the UK, though we only confirmed the North Shields base directly. Because it sells and supports drones for customers across the country, much of its work reaches police, fire services, surveyors, energy firms and other organisations well beyond Tyneside.

On culture, the company highlights specialisation and technical expertise, and says many team members have military, police or other public-service backgrounds. It holds an Armed Forces Covenant Silver Award, which recognises employers that support people connected to the armed forces. It has also been shortlisted for North Tyneside business awards, according to a 2018 post on its site. These are the company's own claims.

A business that sells, hires, repairs and teaches also employs a wide range of people. There are drone pilots and instructors, surveyors and data processors, repair engineers and technicians, sales and customer service staff, marketing and content teams, and logistics and export staff. If you enjoy technology and practical problem solving, or are interested in surveying, mapping or public safety, it is a company to look at. Its website is the place to check for current vacancies.
