About Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence UK

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, which has operated in the UK under names including Hexagon Metrology, supplies the machines and software that measure parts to extreme precision. Metrology is the science of measurement, and factories use it to check that a component is exactly the right size. Hexagon describes itself as a global digital reality company that combines sensor, software and autonomous technologies, and says its Manufacturing Intelligence division uses data from design, production and measurement to make manufacturing smarter.

The sources we read give no formal mission or values statement beyond that, and goals of improving efficiency, productivity, quality and safety and building a scalable and sustainable future. Hexagon's website tells the history of the Brown & Sharpe name, a measuring-instrument brand now owned through Hexagon's TESA business. That history page does not mention the UK. We therefore have no company-written account of why the UK business exists or what it hopes to achieve beyond making metrology products.

The UK business is based in Telford, Shropshire. A 2012 Machinery magazine feature described its special products group, a five-person team led by business manager Gary Brice, which builds primary length-standard equipment for national laboratories, including frequency-stabilised lasers and interferometers for gauge blocks and length bars. Some of these products are designed by the National Physical Laboratory and used in laboratories around the world to calibrate reference gauges. A PES Media article, with undated hires, added that Hexagon had opened a 3,000-square-foot subcontract metrology facility at Silverstone Park near Towcester and that UK general manager Brett Green welcomed new staff in business improvement, compliance, accounting and HR.

The picture of its people is mostly older. A 2013 local news item reported three apprentices, aged 18 to 20 from Telford, Wem and Cannock, working towards BTEC Level 3 and HNC qualifications and NVQs at Telford College, and said the site held the Investors in People Gold award. Special products co-ordinator Fiona Siswick said apprentices were "valued members of our team". These are the company's statements in older reports, not current figures. We found no up-to-date UK headcount or culture page.

The roles in a metrology business include design and mechanical engineers, calibration and test technicians, software specialists, application engineers who help customers measure parts, service engineers, and sales, finance and HR teams. People with interests in precision engineering, physics, electronics, maths and software would fit. Measurement may sound quiet, but it underpins aerospace, car-making, medical devices and every other precision manufacturing industry.
