HiiROC

A Hull-based hydrogen company that makes hydrogen from gas using plasma, without releasing carbon dioxide.

About HiiROC

HiiROC makes hydrogen using thermal plasma electrolysis. The process splits hydrocarbon gases, such as natural gas or biomethane, into hydrogen and solid carbon black without producing greenhouse gas. The carbon black is a by-product the company hopes to find uses for, such as in soil, filters and steel making.

We did not find a formal mission statement. In November 2025 chief executive Tim Davies said the aim with a partner was to demonstrate the commercial and environmental benefits of its technology in the UK.

HiiROC is based in Hull, in the Humber region. It plans to centralise its manufacturing and research there, with prototype and pilot units at the Aura Innovation Centre in Hessle. In November 2025 it agreed with East Midlands Pipeline Limited to run a concept study at a site in Nottingham aimed at up to three tonnes of biohydrogen a day. That is our latest evidence it is trading.

We did not find culture or values statements or staff numbers. Its Humber partners include Centrica Storage and the University of Hull.

We found no graduate scheme, apprenticeship or vacancy details. Check HiiROC's website and look at roles in engineering, chemistry and project delivery at hydrogen companies in the Humber.
