A London software company whose hx platform helps insurers price and underwrite risk with AI.
hyperexponential builds software that helps insurance companies decide how to price risk. Insurers have to guess how likely bad things are, such as storms, fires or big lawsuits, and then charge enough to cover them. hyperexponential's platform, called hx, lets the specialists who do this (underwriters, who decide which risks to accept, and actuaries, who use maths and statistics to price them) work with large amounts of data, build and test pricing models, and use machine learning. Its website now describes hx as "the agentic platform for underwriting work", meaning software that can carry out some tasks itself under people's direction.
The company was co-founded by Amrit Santhirasenan (chief executive) and Michael Johnson. A 2024 press release describes both as former software engineers and actuaries. Built In lists it as founded in 2017 with about 250 employees. It is headquartered in London (a job listing gave 49-51 Borough Road, SE1, with hybrid working) and the 2024 announcement also mentioned an office in Warsaw and plans for New York. The same announcement named customers including Aviva, HDI, Conduit Re and Convex.
We did not find a formal mission statement. The 2024 press release quotes Santhirasenan describing the aim as "building a capital-efficient, independent business that was both high-growth and sustainable", and a job listing described the aim as "building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions". The website lists five values: "We are owners" (taking initiative without being told), "We push boundaries", "We grow" (learning by building), "We go deeper" (a thoughtful, customer-centric approach) and "We do the right thing" (staying kind and respectful).
The product line includes hx Renew, the pricing platform first described in 2024, and a wider hx platform with tools such as a Workflow Builder, Calculation Engines and Portfolio Intelligence. It offers workbenches for reinsurance, specialty and commercial, US admitted and managing general agent (MGA) businesses, and uses such as sorting incoming insurance submissions and pricing and rating. Reinsurance means insurance for insurers.
A job listing (now removed) said "impact isn't tied to title or tenure", and mentioned hackathons, lunch-and-learns, a £5,000 training and conference budget and 33 days of annual leave including bank holidays; these are the company's own claims. Recent roles we saw were for experienced people such as pricing actuaries, product managers, designers, account executives and a management accountant. We did not find graduate schemes, apprenticeships or internships, so check the hyperexponential careers page for junior openings.
