Hyperoptic

A London-based broadband company, founded in 2011, that builds its own full fibre network into blocks of flats and homes in more than 60 UK towns and cities.

About Hyperoptic

Hyperoptic is a UK full fibre broadband provider for homes and businesses. It first became known for bringing very fast internet into blocks of flats, working with landlords and property developers, and its website says it now partners with more than 250 property developers to plan networks in new and existing buildings. As well as home broadband, with a social tariff and managed Wi-Fi called Total Wi-Fi, it offers business broadband and leased lines, which are dedicated, high-quality connections for companies. Its about page says it is live in 64 towns and cities and that more than 2,000 people work to deliver it.

The company was incorporated in 2010 as Bcube Limited by Dana Tobak, renamed Hyperoptic in April 2011 and launched its service in September 2011. Ms Tobak, the chief executive and co-founder, and Boris Ivanovic, the co-founder and chairman, had previously founded the broadband company Be in 2005. Ms Tobak received a CBE in 2018. Hyperoptic describes itself as "on a mission" to lead UK connectivity, with fast speeds, reliability and a network built for future growth. A company timeline says it launched what it called the UK's first residential 1Gb broadband service in London in 2011 and brought installation in-house in 2013.

The company's registered address is Kings House, 174 Hammersmith Road, London. Its history page says it reached Cardiff, Bristol, Liverpool and Manchester in 2014, operated in 35 towns and cities by 2017 and in 57 by 2021, and the careers site lists the UK and Serbia as locations. The company is also a long-term partner of The King's Trust, which supports young people, and says it marked a fourth year of that partnership in 2026.

On culture, the company says it was recognised as one of the UK's Best Workplaces, which is its own claim and a third-party listing we did not check. Its careers site lists departments including Finance and Risk, Strategy, People Team, Technology and Innovation, ISP (its internet provider arm), and Hypernet, its network division. The leadership team on its website includes a chief technology and artificial intelligence officer and a chief people officer, which shows how many different specialisms a modern network company needs.

Roles in a company like this include network engineers and installers, software developers, data and customer-experience specialists, sales and partnerships staff who work with property developers, customer support advisers, and the finance and people teams that support them. Computing, engineering, business and communication subjects all connect to this work, and the company's pairing with The King's Trust suggests it works with young people in some form, although we found no detail on that partnership beyond its existence.
