A UK consumer media company behind Radio Times, BBC Good Food, BBC Gardeners' World Magazine and HistoryExtra.
Immediate Media is a UK consumer media company. Its brands include Radio Times, Good Food, olive, HistoryExtra, BBC Gardeners' World Magazine, BBC Top Gear and Nutracheck, plus children's magazines such as Disney, Lego, Pokemon and Bluey. It reaches readers through magazines, websites, video, podcasts, apps and live events through Immediate Live, including the Good Food Shows, Gardeners' World Live and the Radio Times Festival.
The company was formed in November 2011 by combining Magicalia, Origin Publishing and BBC Magazines. Magicalia was founded in 1999 by Adam Laird and Jeremy Tapp, and Tom Bureau became chief executive of the new company. It added Hitched.co.uk and the TV shopping channel Jewellery Maker in 2015, and launched The Recommended in 2022. The BBC Good Food website has about 22 million visitors a month worldwide. Since 2017 it has been owned by the German group Hubert Burda Media. It has bought the BBC Good Food brand, licensed from BBC Studios, and says it is the largest food media publisher in the UK. A job-board profile gives its aim as "helping to inspire them, deepen their knowledge, skills and fuel their passions", meaning its audiences.
In the UK, the headquarters is in Fulham, London, with an office at Vineyard House, Brook Green, and others in Bristol, Manchester and Rushcliffe near Nottingham according to a Built In London profile. Sources give about 1,300 employees in a reference page and 859 in the job-board profile, so figures vary. Good Food has a test kitchen at Vineyard House with five workstations, where the recipe team tests every recipe the brand publishes.
Its work needs many skills: editors and writers, recipe developers, video and social producers, photographers, designers, developers, marketing and sales teams, event organisers, and people and finance staff. The company profile lists open roles in people, marketing and sales, for example. We did not find culture statements or perks from the company itself.
The mix of food, gardening, history, television and parenting titles means there is a brand for almost any interest. Try following one brand across its magazine, website and live show to see how many teams are involved. Check Immediate's website for up-to-date information.
