About Inigo

Inigo is a specialty insurance and reinsurance company based in London. It writes cover across property in the US and internationally, casualty, financial lines such as directors and officers liability, cyber, war and terrorism, onshore energy and reinsurance, and works with brokers and managing general agents. It operates at Lloyd's of London, the world's specialist insurance market.

Inigo was formed in the last quarter of 2020 and joined Lloyd's in 2021 by acquiring Syndicate 1301. The founders are Richard Watson (chief executive), Russell Merrett (chief underwriting officer) and Stuart Bridges (chief financial officer), who met while working at Hiscox. Its stated mission is to use technology and data to understand risk more precisely, which supports stronger underwriting and more value for clients.

The company is London based and chose London over Bermuda, with a strategy built around London brokers. Radian Group completed an acquisition of Inigo in February 2026, and Inigo says it continues to operate under its own name in a combined global multi-line specialty insurer, bringing together Inigo's Lloyd's business with Radian's specialty ambitions. Sir Howard Davies chairs the company, and its leadership page lists London as the base of its team.

Inigo describes itself as open, curious and grounded in good judgement, and as sharing insights so clients can make better choices. In an interview, Richard Watson said the founders wanted to rediscover the energy of working in the sector, and that they put fun and humour alongside professionalism, with a team that helps each other and avoids office politics. The founders chose to set up in London rather than Bermuda, and its early strategy relied on London brokers. He also described wanting a low-ego approach to risk management and not box-ticking. These are the company's own descriptions.

In a specialty insurer, people work as underwriters across lines such as property, casualty and cyber, as risk and actuarial staff, in claims, in finance, and in data and technology teams that give underwriters better analytics. Inigo's emphasis on data and newer systems means analytical skills are especially useful there. The leadership team also includes Craig Knightley (chief underwriting officer, insurance) and Vanessa Hartley (chief risk officer), who joined from Catlin and Swiss Re roles, showing the mix of underwriting and risk careers in the business.
