A UK electric vehicle rapid-charging network with chargers at sites around the country and a headquarters in Basingstoke.
InstaVolt builds and runs rapid chargers for electric cars across the UK. Drivers can tap a contactless bank card to pay, with no subscription or membership card needed, and there is also an app. Its own site reports nearly 1,800 active chargers, and it has opened hubs such as one in Banbury and a planned Winchester Superhub with 44 bays and solar panels.
The company's stated mission is to "make EV charging as simple and efficient as possible for all drivers". It also stresses sustainability. At its Chineham Park hub in Basingstoke, all energy comes from 100% renewable sources supplied by Octopus Energy. An early press report said it topped UK user satisfaction rankings for charging networks usable by many car models, but did not name the survey.
InstaVolt is headquartered in Basingstoke, Hampshire. A 2019 report put its chargers at petrol stations, roadside diners, Starbucks drive-thrus, supermarkets and retail parks, from Cumbria in the North West to Dorset in the South. It installed a record 72 rapid chargers in one month that year. Its website says InstaVolt develops, installs, owns and operates ultra-rapid chargers delivering 50kW to 160kW, with free 24/7 support and a proactive maintenance team of engineers and technical support staff, and it claims over 99% uptime. That makes service and reliability a core part of the job.
Named people include chief executive Tim Payne in the early report and chief commercial officer Simon Smith in a recent site announcement. We did not find a culture statement. The website describes a simple pay-as-you-use service with no hidden fees or subscriptions and says its senior management brings many years of experience from electrical engineering and energy services. It also has Meet the Board and Meet the Team pages. The press describes a hassle-free, driver-friendly approach, which is the company's own positioning rather than an independent view of what working there is like.
Roles in a charging network include electrical and civil engineers, site acquisition and property specialists, project managers, operations and maintenance engineers, customer support, data and software staff, and marketing and commercial teams. The pages we read did not give a headcount or founding date, so follow its news to learn more.
