A specialist bank and wealth manager with London offices, offering UK apprenticeships and summer internships.
Investec is an international bank and wealth manager. In the UK it looks after people's money and borrowing through private banking (accounts, savings, mortgages, foreign exchange and loans), helps businesses with lending, treasury and investment banking, and provides asset finance and premium finance for brokers and dealers. Investec's UK site describes wealth management through a partnership with Rathbones. Its UK careers pages cover private banking, technology and investment banking teams.
Investec began in 1974 as a small finance company in South Africa and grew into an international group through organic growth and acquisitions, according to its UK About page. It is listed on the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges. The page says the group has about 7,400 staff in more than 40 cities on four continents. In the UK, the business is Investec Bank plc, led by chief executive Ruth Leas, and the About page pictures its London office at 65 Gresham Street. We did not find a full list of UK offices on the pages we read.
Investec states its purpose as "to create enduring worth" and its brand idea as "Out of the Ordinary". Its listed values include building deep client relationships on trust, integrity, hiring creative people who collaborate, embracing change, open and honest dialogue, diversity and inclusion, caring for people, contributing to communities and taking responsibility for the environment. Its community work focuses on education, entrepreneurship and the environment, and staff can take up to two paid days a year for community work. These are the company's own statements.
For early careers, the main routes are summer internships, early career roles for recent graduates, and apprenticeships with the training company Multiverse for people over 18 who are not in education, in business, digital or technology roles. The 10,000 Black Interns and 10,000 Able Interns programmes provide paid work experience through the 10,000 Interns Foundation. Interns take on real responsibilities, choose the team they want to join and attend talks and networking events, and Investec says many interns later return in early career roles.
Investec describes its culture as "one of honest conversations" with an "entrepreneurial spirit", values attitude as much as academic excellence, and runs staff networks including Gender Balance, LGBTQ+, Multicultural and YoungMinds. It says there are no formal prerequisites or minimum grades, and no cover letter is needed: you submit a CV, then a video application, then a panel interview. The summer internship lasts eight weeks and starts in July (one FAQ answer says six), and applications open in January; Summer 2027 had closed and 2028 opens in 2027. The rotational graduate programmes were paused when the page was read. Applicants need UK work permission because Investec does not sponsor visas at this stage. Pay was not stated.
