A Sheffield company that designs and builds electrolysers, the machines that make green hydrogen from water and renewable electricity.
ITM Power designs and manufactures electrolysers based on proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology. These use renewable electricity and water to make hydrogen, and the machines can be scaled to very large sizes. A July 2026 news article refers to its Chronos platform for large industrial projects.
In 2021 chief executive Graham Cooley said the company's goal was to help the world through the energy transition, and the company said it aimed to help the UK lead on cutting carbon by making green hydrogen equipment at home.
ITM is based in Sheffield, where it operates large factories in the Tinsley area (a Bessemer Park gigafactory opened in 2021). A 2022 report said it had over 350 full-time employees and was planning to recruit about 100 more, but we did not find a current headcount. A German finance site still reported on the company as Sheffield-based in July 2026.
In a 2022 local news report the company said it had 11 apprentices and trainees and planned to recruit 20 more, and was training staff to work with South Yorkshire schools. We did not find a values page.
A 2022 apprenticeship listing was for an Advanced Level mechanical assembly technician, studied at the AMRC Training Centre, with at least three GCSEs at grade 5 including maths, English and a science, technology or engineering subject (as at 2022, now closed).
