The UK arm of a global property services group whose roots lie in a London auction business, with 26 UK offices and a flagship London office at 1 Broadgate.
JLL is a property services company that helps companies, investors and home owners buy, rent, sell, finance, design and run property. Its UK residential site lists buying, renting, selling, letting, investment and property management, and its wider work covers land purchase, financing, planning, development advice, leasing and running buildings. It says it uses technology, data and its own research to spot opportunities. Its investment management arm is called LaSalle Investment Management.
JLL traces its roots to Jones Lang Wootton, a London auctioneer that Wikipedia says began in the 1700s, and to LaSalle Partners, which was founded in the United States in the 1960s. The two merged in 1999 to form Jones Lang LaSalle. In 2011 it joined with the UK firm King Sturge, which the Telegraph reported created the UK's largest property agent, with about 2,700 people and 43 offices. The name was shortened to JLL for marketing in 2014. Its UK residential pages say it has helped people with property needs for more than 150 years.
JLL's stated purpose, from its UK press release, is "to shape the future of real estate for a better world." It describes its UK workplaces as designed for collaboration, innovation and wellbeing. The company has also set up the JLL Foundation, which supports climate and sustainability start-ups, and an in-house AI tool for staff called JLL GPT, according to Wikipedia.
In the UK, JLL lists 26 offices in major cities, 14 of them in London. The residential site names Mayfair, Canary Wharf, the City and Kensington among them. Its flagship UK office is at 1 Broadgate in the City, it has space at 20 Water Street in Canary Wharf, and in 2026 it took about 14,000 square feet at 1 Newman Street in Fitzrovia. Outside London, news items mention offices in Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester and the Midlands. Matthew Richards leads JLL UK and is head of EMEA Capital Markets. The company says it has more than 113,000 people worldwide.
JLL's work uses many different skills. Teams include agents who let and sell offices and homes, valuers, surveyors, building and project managers, researchers, data and technology specialists, sustainability advisers, and finance and legal staff. Maths, geography, economics, business studies and computing are all relevant. JLL manages whole buildings, such as 1 Newman Street in Fitzrovia, so building managers and engineers sit alongside the agents. The JLL UK website lists current roles.
