About J.P. Morgan

JPMorgan Chase is a US banking group. It runs one of the world's biggest investment banks (which advise companies on deals and help them raise money), offers everyday banking and credit cards in the US through Chase, and does asset management, wealth management and private banking. In the UK it operates as J.P. Morgan for business and investment banking, and in September 2021 it launched Chase UK, an app-based current and savings account service, its first retail bank outside the US.

The group was formed on 1 December 2000 by the merger of J.P. Morgan & Co. (founded in 1871) and Chase Manhattan, and its oldest predecessor dates to 1799. It is headquartered at 270 Park Avenue in New York and has about 318,500 employees (a 2026 figure on Wikipedia). In the UK, its regional office is in London, with additional offices in Bournemouth, Glasgow and Edinburgh. It bought 25 Bank Street in London in 2010 as European headquarters for its investment bank, and in 2025 it unveiled plans for a new office in Canary Wharf. Chase UK's 2021 announcement said the digital bank was headquartered in Canary Wharf, served customers from a purpose-built contact centre in Edinburgh and had created 400 UK jobs at that stage; it is run through a UK subsidiary regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority.

We did not find a formal mission statement in the sources we read. For Chase UK, the company said it wanted to give UK consumers a new banking choice, "built from scratch" for British customers, which is a stated aim for that business rather than a group mission.

Its main businesses in the UK are investment banking, asset and wealth management, Chase UK, and the operations, technology, compliance and finance teams that keep a global bank running. Chase UK was announced in January 2021 under chief executive Sanoke Viswanathan and uses the Chase brand through a mobile app.

For young people, J.P. Morgan's UK listings include several routes. A Financial Services Apprenticeship is a four-year programme where you earn an undergraduate degree while working, either an Applied Finance degree with the University of Exeter (three B grades at A level including a STEM subject, plus GCSE English at 5 and maths at 6) or a Financial Services degree with Heriot-Watt University (BBBB at Higher, plus National 5 B in maths and English). Apprentices join investment operations, technology, compliance or finance teams, get one study day a week, a buddy who completed the programme, and may be offered a full-time role. The page names London, Bournemouth and Edinburgh but is inconsistent, so check locations. Earlier listings include a two-year Global Finance and Business Management Apprenticeship leading to AAT Level 4, a Glasgow graduate software apprenticeship and 2027 summer internships. Pay was not stated, and the company says apprentices avoid student debt.
