A specialist insurance and reinsurance group with a London underwriting base and two Lloyd's syndicates, covering aviation, energy, marine and property risks.
Lancashire is a specialty insurance and reinsurance business. It underwrites cover for things like aircraft and satellites, energy and power plants, ships and cargo, property, and terrorism and political violence. It operates through two Lloyd's syndicates, 2010 and 3010, managed by Lancashire Syndicates Limited in London. Over time it has grown from four core products to close to ten, covering around 50 sub-classes.
Lancashire does not give a single mission sentence on the pages we read. Its chief executive's review says everything is grounded in "the Lancashire Way", a set of values built on trust, high standards, hard work and opportunities for career growth. The company says it hires people who share those values so the culture holds as it opens new offices and enters new countries.
The group was set up in 2005, after Hurricane Katrina disrupted the insurance market, and Alex Maloney, who has been with Lancashire since its start, is group chief executive. It has since built platforms in Australia and the United States, and in 2025 it marked its 20th anniversary with an all-staff event. Its syndicates sit inside Lloyd's, and in 2025 it completed the buy-out of the underwriting capacity of Syndicate 2010, giving it full control of both syndicates.
In the UK, Lancashire Syndicates Limited uses 20 Fenchurch Street, London EC3M 3BY, for claims and complaints correspondence, and its UK-registered insurance company is Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) Limited. Its syndicate pages name London-based leaders across aviation, cargo and specie, energy, power, terrorism, marine hull and marine liability, property and treaty reinsurance. We did not find a published UK headcount or a list of other UK offices.
Lancashire says its all-staff surveys are used to check its culture and that the 2025 survey gave strong feedback. It also says senior leaders, rather than only HR, own talent development, that it tries to spot people early and promote from within, and that a mentoring programme had 13 participants in 2025 with a second group planned for 2026. These are the company's own claims. The roles at a business like this include underwriters and underwriting assistants, claims handlers, actuaries and modellers, finance, risk and compliance staff, and technology and operations teams.
