Landmark Information Group

A UK provider of property search reports, mapping and environmental risk data, used by conveyancers, surveyors, lenders and estate agents, with a registered office in Exeter.

About Landmark Information Group

Landmark Information Group provides the data that sits behind many UK property purchases. When someone buys a home or a commercial building, their solicitor or conveyancer orders reports on things such as flood risk, contaminated land, ground stability, planning, mining history and nearby infrastructure. Landmark produces those reports and other property data. It says its data, reports, software and services are developed in line with Law Society and Solicitors Regulation Authority requirements. Its products include EnviroSearch and RiskView for homes, Sitecheck for commercial property, and consultant-written Argyll Environmental SiteSolutions reports. It also serves estate agents, lenders and surveyors with mapping and valuation tools.

Landmark says it has invested in its database since 1995, and describes itself as the UK's leading provider of land and property search information. Its data partners include Ordnance Survey, the Environment Agency, the Coal Authority and the British Geological Survey. Its stated focus on environmental reports is to set a new standard for due diligence, with clarity, accuracy and actionable insight. In November 2024 it remastered its residential reports with forward-looking climate analysis, and has since done the same for commercial reports, covering both physical risks such as flooding and heat, and transition risks such as energy efficiency.

The company's registered office is in Exeter, Devon (Abbey Court, Sowton Industrial Estate), and it was incorporated in January 1994. A 2016 trade article listed offices in Reading, Exeter and Brighton, and a Bristol company profile page also mentions it, but we could not confirm today's office list. Its products cover England, Wales and Scotland. A third-party listing gave 439 employees (date unknown). Landmark was part of the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) in earlier reports, so check its website for its current ownership.

On culture, Landmark's own text says that it values innovation, customer focus and high-quality services, and that it respects individuality, encourages strong working relationships and supports self-development. A student-review site shows a handful of reviews averaging 4 out of 5, with one reviewer praising friendly people and technology and another enjoying a software development placement. Treat these as a rough guide only. In 2018 the company appointed a new chief executive, Simon Brown, and executive chairman Stephen Stout.

A data business like this employs software developers, data scientists and GIS (geographic information system) specialists who turn maps and records into usable reports, environmental consultants who write expert commentary, product managers, customer support and account teams who work with law firms, and the usual finance and people teams. It suits people who like maps, geography, environmental science, computing or law, and who want to see how data helps people buy a home with fewer surprises.
