Leo Cancer Care

A company making upright radiotherapy equipment, so cancer patients can be treated sitting or standing instead of lying down.

About Leo Cancer Care

Leo Cancer Care designs radiotherapy equipment and imaging around the body's upright position. Its platform covers imaging plus proton and photon (X-ray) treatment, and its Marie proton system turns the seated patient instead of a huge machine, which the company says makes the treatment room about five times smaller.

Chief executive Stephen Towe says the company designs care "around the patient rather than the machine". An earlier interview described it as the more human way to deliver radiation therapy, aimed at better treatment and wider global access.

The company began in Sydney and later moved to the UK, according to a 2021 interview. A job listing from August 2025 shows a joint venture with University College London Hospitals in London, and a September 2026 UK medtech list places Leo in the South East of England. The one role we saw was a research radiographer post in the UCLH joint venture, which needed a radiography degree and professional registration. It was posted in August 2025 (as at 2025) and is closed. Check Leo's careers page for engineering and clinical roles.
