A start-up using AI to flag legal and compliance problems in staff communications as they happen.
LexVerify is a UK-based start-up that uses artificial intelligence to flag legal and compliance problems in electronic messages, such as emails and chats, in real time. Compliance means following the laws and rules that apply to a business. The idea is to work a bit like a spell-checker: it warns a person before they send something risky, rather than after.
The company's founder and chief executive is Cristian Gherhes. A trade article said the product scans messages for risks linked to competition law, financial sanctions and data protection (GDPR), and is aimed at legal, compliance, HR and cybersecurity teams. It said LexVerify had run pilot projects with companies in financial services and pharmaceuticals. The article did not give a city or office address, so we do not know where it is based beyond being UK-based.
We did not find a mission statement. Gherhes was quoted as wanting to make risk prevention as easy as spell checking.
LexVerify was one of four start-ups in the 2023 intake of NCSC for Startups, according to Plexal, which runs it at London's Olympic Park. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is part of GCHQ and gives advice to UK organisations. Plexal describes the 12-week programme as giving start-ups technical advice from the NCSC, Plexal and partners, and help to improve their products. It describes LexVerify as an AI-powered assistant that prevents legal and compliance risks on electronic communication in real time, and says it lowers costs, protects reputation and gives employees ongoing training.
We found no information on company culture, team size, or jobs. We found no early-careers schemes. For a young person, the useful lesson is that LexVerify sits where law, cyber security and AI meet, so skills in computing, law or data could all be relevant to a company like it. As it is a small young company, check its website directly for any roles.
