Lighthouse Green Fuels

A Teesside project company, owned by the Alfanar group, planning a large plant to turn waste biomass into sustainable aviation fuel.

About Lighthouse Green Fuels

Lighthouse Green Fuels, now trading as LGF Projects, is developing a sustainable aviation fuel plant on Teesside. The plan is to turn around 1.5 million tonnes a year of sustainably sourced biomass and waste into more than 180 million litres of second-generation aviation fuel plus some green naphtha, a chemical feedstock. The fuel would be blended with ordinary jet fuel and supplied to UK airports. The plant is still at the planning and permitting stage, so it is not yet built or running.

The company's stated purpose is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in aviation, support the UK government's Jet Zero policy and strengthen energy security. Noaman Al Adhami, Alfanar's UK country head, said in 2023, "Lighthouse Green Fuels will produce the jet fuel for Net Zero", and in 2025 that the new site makes it "better placed to become a global leader in sustainable aviation fuel production."

Lighthouse is owned by Alfanar, a Saudi Arabian manufacturing and infrastructure group with a London headquarters, and is a wholly owned subsidiary. The plant was first planned at Billingham in Stockton-on-Tees. In November 2025 Alfanar confirmed a move to a larger site at Seal Sands on Teesside, closer to rail, shipping and carbon capture infrastructure. A September 2026 article says engineering design was completed in May 2026 and that a Development Consent Order application is prepared. Independent analysis quoted there forecasts about 2,200 peak construction jobs and more than 320 permanent skilled roles.

We did not find a description of the company's internal culture, values or headcount. The people quoted are Alfanar's UK head and local politicians, such as Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen, who says Teesside has the people, skills and drive to deliver the project. Treat the job numbers as forecasts, not promises. The 2023 project description said the plant would also boost local supply chains, and a Teesside MP highlighted career opportunities for young people.

We found no graduate scheme, internship or apprenticeship advert. The project mentions career opportunities for young people through construction and operations, but that is a forecast. If you want to work in this area, look for chemical engineering, process, environmental and project roles, and check the LGF website and Alfanar's UK pages for jobs. The Teesside project may offer more roles as it moves from design and consents to construction.
