Lightyear

A London investing app that lets people buy shares and funds with low fees, starting from as little as one pound.

About Lightyear

Lightyear is a stock trading and investing platform with an app and a web app. In the UK it offers commission-free investing, ISAs and, from May 2026, ready-made plans with three risk levels built from BlackRock and Vanguard funds.

A job listing gives its aim as "to build the investment platform that everyone in Europe deserves". UK chief executive Wander Rutgers has said the company is "building an investment platform that people will trust with their long term wealth", aiming to avoid the high fees and clunky experience of older providers.

Lightyear operates from London (Spitalfields, E1) and Tallinn, Estonia, and trades in the UK as Lightyear UK after receiving direct FCA authorisation. A 6 May 2026 article on its UK launch shows it is still active.

The company was founded in 2021 by Martin Sokk and Mihkel Aamer, who used to work at Wise. A listing says the team is between 21 and 100 people, and mentions stock options, flexible working, team events, learning opportunities and private medical insurance. These are the company's own claims.

We did not find a graduate scheme, internship or apprenticeship. The roles we saw were for experienced engineers, product and compliance staff and are marked no longer available. Check Lightyear's careers page for current roles.
