Lime UK

The UK arm of the global Lime shared-transport company, running e-bikes and e-scooters in London and other British towns and cities.

About Lime UK

Lime offers shared electric bikes and scooters that people can rent for short trips using a phone app. In the UK it is best known for its e-bikes in London, and for e-scooter schemes run with local councils and Transport for London.

Lime's chief executive, Wayne Ting, said when the company was chosen to join the London e-scooter trial that Lime hoped to "contribute to the development of a greener transport system that's accessible for everyone". The company pitches its bikes and scooters as zero-emission options for trips under about five miles, and says safety is central to what it does. Its Gen4 e-scooter was built with a braking distance it says is half that of other rental scooters, plus lights and nine high-visibility reflectors. Lime was also one of the operators picked for the Transport for London and London Councils e-scooter trial, and by 2021 it said it ran trials in Milton Keynes since August 2020.

Lime's UK business has grown city by city. By 2021 it ran London e-bikes (it said more than 400,000 Londoners had used them over three years) and e-scooter schemes in Milton Keynes, Greater Manchester, Salford and Rochdale, then joined the London trial. A 2024 Time Out report said Lime bikes were available in 16 of London's 32 boroughs, that it planned three more, and that it would open a new north London warehouse to store and repair bikes. It has also described using e-cargo bikes, rather than vans, to swap batteries. Lime's UK and Ireland leadership has included General Manager Sam Merullo, appointed in 2021, who had earlier founded ScootFleet, a logistics business that supplies companies such as Just Eat and Deliveroo. In 2021 Zag Daily estimated Lime ran about 800 scooters in London, 400 in Milton Keynes and 300 in Manchester, with around 1,500 e-bikes across the UK, though those are estimates and are now out of date. An Octopus Energy blog post titled "Powering Lime UK with 100% green energy" suggests the two UK companies work together on clean power.

The wider Lime brand has a US head office, so this page is about its UK operations. The people behind them include operations managers, depot and field teams, engineers who repair vehicles, and city partnership staff who work with councils. We did not find a detailed description of UK culture or a UK headcount, so treat the team size as unknown.

Roles listed for Lime in London include operations managers, and the company also needs mechanics, data analysts, safety and policy staff and customer teams. It is a good fit if you like transport, climate and city life. Time Out reported in 2024 that Lime had pledged 10,000 extra parking spaces for bikes and scooters and said that 97% of Londoners were within two minutes of a Lime, which is the company's own claim. Parking and tidiness are real challenges that the operations and policy teams work on every day, so problem solving matters.
