It helps businesses buy insurance and manage risk, and its services include corporate risk, people solutions (employee benefits and retirement), reinsurance and consultancy, and specialist insurance. In the UK you will find teams working on property and casualty cover, claims consulting, risk control and sector specialisms such as energy and retail, as well as Lockton Global Re, its reinsurance business formed in 2019.
Jack Lockton founded the firm in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1966, when he was 24. His growth model has been to recruit business leaders and build offices around them, and the firm describes this as building businesses "around talented people". Lockton says it is the world's largest independent global insurance broker, and that private ownership lets its associates focus on clients' risk and insurance needs. Lockton lists UK offices on its global site, including Finchley (Supreme House, 300 Regents Park Road, London), Manchester (3 Piccadilly Place), Birmingham, Brighton, Edinburgh and Glasgow, alongside its main London operation and a Global Energy team. A trade-press article described more than 40 insurance and risk professionals in Scotland across Glasgow, Edinburgh and a new Aberdeen office. The Manchester page names regional partners and practice leaders, including Matt Davies, Richard Barraclough and Kelvin Chadwick.
Lockton's own materials describe an independent, privately held firm in which people matter more than process. Its site says about 8,500 associates (employees) work in over 125 countries, although other sources quote higher group figures, so the number is not consistent. The Scottish article quotes regional leaders Gordon Duncan and Ian Cooper talking about a customer-centric approach and strengthening the local business. We did not find a UK-specific culture page.
An independent broker needs account executives, brokers, claims consultants, analysts, benefits specialists and operations staff, and Lockton's regional offices mean those jobs are spread across the UK rather than only in London.
