A London-based construction company, founded in 1990, that delivers major UK buildings and infrastructure such as the Shard and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, now operating as Mace Construct.
Mace is a London-based company known for managing and delivering large, complicated projects. Its UK work covers commercial property, mixed-use developments, health and life sciences, data centres, infrastructure and major sporting venues. Buildings and structures it has worked on include the London Eye (2000), the Shard (completed 2012), the Emirates Air Line cable car (2012), Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (2019) and the NHS Nightingale Hospital in London (2020). It is also named on Wikipedia as working on Universal Studios UK, which is due to be finished in 2031.
Mace was founded in 1990 by a group of construction and architecture professionals led by Ian Macpherson, who had left Bovis. Their aim was to bring a more collaborative way of working to an industry that Wikipedia describes as combative. A key early job was in 1997, when Mace was chosen as project and construction manager for the British Airways headquarters at Heathrow. A big change came in 2026. On 5 March 2026 the construction and consulting arms were formally separated: the consulting business became a standalone company with about 5,200 staff, and the construction business, with about 2,000 staff, is being rebranded as Mace Construct. This page describes the construction side.
On its UK page, Mace describes its mission as "Transforming the UK built environment" and says it aims to create value for clients and local communities. Its motto is "Build Smart, Build Better", and it talks about clients as partners in shaping the UK's future. It credits its growth to trust and a reputation for excellence and innovation, and to the drive, dedication and passion of its people. These are company statements and we have not tested them.
Mace's global headquarters is in the City of London. The pages we read name no other UK offices, but search results showed regional pages for the north of England and for London and the south-east, so it does work beyond the capital. We have not confirmed where those offices are. Mark Reynolds is the group chair and chief executive. Because the company has just been split in two, it is worth checking which of the two businesses a given office or team belongs to.
Roles at a company that leads big projects include project managers and construction managers, quantity surveyors and cost managers, planners, site engineers, health and safety specialists, digital and data specialists, and people in finance, legal and human resources. The work is about getting many different teams to deliver together, so communication and organisation matter as much as technical skill. Mace's website lists current roles.
