The MTA is the UK trade association for companies that design, make and supply manufacturing technology such as machine tools, metrology and 3D printing, and it organises the MACH exhibition.
The Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) is the UK's trade association for companies in the manufacturing technology sector. Its members design, make and supply advanced machinery, equipment and intellectual property. Its areas include machine tools, cutting tools, metrology (precise measurement), additive manufacturing (3D printing), surface finishing, robotics, CAD/CAM software and Industry 4.0 digital manufacturing. It is a not-for-profit organisation.
The MTA says it exists to promote the interests, and be the voice, of the manufacturing technologies sector in the UK. A trade article from April 2023 says it has been at the core of the UK's engineering-based manufacturing economy for over a century. Its Chief Executive is James Selka DL. It is registered in England with an office at 62 Bayswater Road in London.
In April 2023 the MTA announced a cluster of trade associations and events. The Engineering Industries Association (EIA), which helps UK engineering suppliers promote their capability in precision subcontracting, and Additive Manufacturing UK (AMUK), described as the UK's only trade association for additive manufacturing and 3D printing, joined the MTA. The Engineering Supply Chain Show was created in 2022 for EIA members. The MTA also owns and organises MACH, which it describes as the UK's only major exhibition focused on manufacturing technologies. MACH drew more than 26,000 visitors and about 500 exhibitors in 2022, and MACH 2024 was held at the NEC in Birmingham from 15 to 19 April 2024.
The MTA's services include representation and advocacy, marketing and networking with market intelligence, technical services and standards, and export support. It also runs skills and training work, including apprenticeship and training grants, the TDI Challenge and the MACH Education and Development Zone. The pages we read do not describe company culture, so we have not claimed one.
Staff at a trade association tend to be people who like industry and communication: policy and government affairs staff, event organisers, marketing teams, technical and standards advisers, membership managers and training coordinators. It is a way to work in manufacturing while meeting hundreds of companies and learning what each does. If you enjoy events, business and technology equally, the MTA and its MACH exhibition show how such a career can look.
