Marshmallow

A London insurtech that started with car insurance for people who have moved to the UK and now also offers van and home insurance.

About Marshmallow

Marshmallow sells insurance and finance products, with a special focus on people who have recently moved to the UK. Many insurers mark down overseas driving experience, so newcomers often pay far more. Marshmallow began with car insurance and now offers car, telematics (black box), van and home insurance, plus car finance. It says it has helped over a million drivers.

It was founded by twins Alexander and Oliver Kent-Braham and their friend David Goate. Marshmallow’s own About page says it started in 2017, while a TechRound feature says it launched in 2016, so the exact year is unclear. The idea came from a Canadian friend who kept getting very expensive car insurance quotes. The founders say they worked from the lobby of a gym to keep costs low in the early days. It became a licensed insurer in 2021. Its registered address is 66 City Road, London, its London office is in Old Street, and it also has an office in Budapest.

Marshmallow’s mission statement is “Everyone deserves a fair deal.” Its founders told TechRound they wanted to make insurance more inclusive by using deeper data to price risk, and one blog post by Alexander explains why the company supports migration and wants to make moving to the UK easier. The company says: “We didn’t start Marshmallow because we loved insurance. Actually, quite the opposite.” These are the company’s own claims.

Named products include fully comprehensive car insurance as standard, telematics and van options, a “New to the UK” policy that accepts driving licences and experience from around the world, home insurance launched in 2026, and car finance, which the company says it built in eight months. Its Inside Marshmallow blog profiles teams in fraud, underwriting, operations, engineering, data science and credit hire claims.

Marshmallow describes a place where “curious, tenacious people win and grow together”, and it says the founders prioritise adaptability because the business changes quickly. The blog shows people staying for five years or more and moving from role to role, for example from engineering into data science work. We did not find graduate schemes, apprenticeships or internships, and pay is not published. Job boards list roles in customer service, claims, digital marketing and partnerships, so check Marshmallow’s careers page for current entry-level openings.
