McLaren Racing

The Woking-based motorsport business behind the McLaren Formula 1 team, which also races in IndyCar and hypercar competition.

About McLaren Racing

McLaren Racing is a motorsport team based in Woking, Surrey. Its careers site lists the McLaren Formula 1 Team, the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team and the McLaren Hypercar Team. It races, in its words, every weekend across nearly every continent, and it needs people far beyond the drivers.

The team's stated mission is to "build McLaren's racing legacy by setting the standard for high performance". It lists five values, brave, respectful, innovative, inclusive and energetic. It describes a racing mindset with a burning competitive drive, an expectation of excellence in every department and a belief that performance is a shared responsibility. These are the company's own words.

The team was founded by the New Zealander Bruce McLaren, who started Bruce McLaren Motor Racing in 1963 and entered Formula 1 in 1966. After his death in 1970 the team went on to win championships, including with Emerson Fittipaldi in 1974, James Hunt in 1976, Ayrton Senna in 1988, 1990 and 1991, and Lando Norris, who won the 2025 drivers' title as the team took its second Constructors' Championship in a row. The group is based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, which Wikipedia says was built between 1998 and 2011.

The careers site says roles span the garage, machine shop, finance, marketing, partnerships, catering, physiotherapy and strategy. Its current openings in Woking range from CNC machinists and non-destructive testing technicians to race logistics, customs and freight, apparel, warehouse, digital publishing and aerodynamics design roles. IndyCar roles are based in Indianapolis, in the United States. The wider Woking site is also where the team's heritage and race-car build work are done, and a recent listing included a trainee race logistics coordinator, a role that shows how many support jobs sit behind each race weekend. The company describes its people as racers and says it wants to lead racing toward a more sustainable future.

McLaren Group, the wider parent, reported 2,627 employees for 2024 on Wikipedia, which covers the group rather than just the racing team. The racing team's own headcount was not stated on the pages we read. The wider group once included sports car and engineering businesses that are now separate, so check which company a job advert is for. McLaren Automotive, the road-car maker, was sold to a separate owner in 2024, and McLaren Applied was sold in 2021.
