A London-based referral marketing platform that helps online brands turn happy customers into word-of-mouth recommendations.
Mention Me is a London company that helps online shops and apps grow through customer recommendations. Its software lets a brand run a "refer a friend" programme, with rewards, testing of different offers, and tools to manage the campaign. A listing says more than 400 brands use it, including Farfetch, Cole Haan, Zipcar and Benefit Cosmetics. A company profile adds that its programmes have driven over 4 million referrals for more than 450 brands, including Charlotte Tilbury and ASOS. A directory listing adds that it has also worked with apps in health, finance and home energy, that it charges on a performance basis so costs are tied to results, and that it suits brands with more than 2,000 online orders a month. It claims name-sharing can raise referrals by as much as 35 per cent, which is its own marketing claim.
We did not find a formal mission statement in the pages we could read. The company calls its approach "Referral Engineering", and its main idea is name-sharing technology, which captures the recommendations people make by simply telling a friend a brand's name. Its profile also says it celebrates every employee and wants a diverse workplace, which are the company's own claims.
Mention Me is headquartered in London and was founded in 2013 as a self-funded company of two people. Its founders are Andy Cockburn, who is chief executive, and Tim Boughton, who is chief technology officer. A company profile puts its team at about 116 people, whom it calls "Mentioneers". The company says it started as a bootstrapped business of two people, so it has grown a long way from a very small team. We did not find the street address of its London office.
The company's profile names leaders in engineering, design and user experience, product, sales, partnerships and client services, as well as a chief operating officer and a chief of staff. That shows the range of jobs in a small software business, from data scientists and software engineers to client managers and designers. Job adverts on a jobs board include senior software engineer and senior data scientist roles.
The profile says the company especially welcomes applications from groups who are underrepresented in the industry, and that it wants to address unfair barriers at work. Because the team is small, expect to work closely with colleagues across departments. If you are interested in marketing, psychology and why people recommend brands, this is a company worth following.
