A Soho post-production company that finishes sound and picture for TV drama, film and documentaries, and has recently widened into games and advertising.
Molinare is a post-production company based in Soho, London. Post-production is the work done after filming to turn raw footage and recordings into a finished programme or film, including editing, colour grading, sound mixing, adding dialogue and effects, and preparing files for broadcasters and cinemas. Its group site describes services including offline editing, picture and audio finishing, quality control, mastering and delivery for film and TV, plus Sound Warriors for foley and sound editing, Voice Molinare for voice recording and Notorious DIT for digital dailies on set. In July 2023 it renamed itself Molinare Creative Group as it moved into games and advertising.
Molinare marked its 40th anniversary in a Screen Daily profile and went into administration in 2012, when it was rescued by Steve Milne and Julie Parmenter. Its credits have included The Grand Budapest Hotel, Call the Midwife, The Musketeers, Man on Wire and, more recently, Peaky Blinders and Heartstopper through its on-set data service. Julie Parmenter said in that profile "The clients don't leave because the staff don't". We did not find a mission statement, so we have not invented one. The company says it is "the UK's leading post-production facility".
The company is based in Soho, central London. Its main premises are on Foubert's Place, with a purpose-built capture studio used with the partner Centroid, and a second building on Poland Street, a short walk away, houses Sound Warriors and Voice Molinare. In the past, it leased Craven House on Marshall Street and said its drama and film clients, especially American ones, want to stay in Soho because they "appreciate the village feel". A Screen Daily profile counted about 120 staff, with a large number of edit rooms, grading suites, audio suites and projection theatres, though that is an older figure.
The Screen Daily profile stresses staff stability and hands-on leadership, and Julie Parmenter compared the company's ethos to the care and reliable delivery she knew from the car industry. Current leaders listed on the group site include Nigel Bennett as chief executive and Glen Gathard as chief creative officer and sound supervisor. Wikipedia describes Soho as a village-like community where companies often hire people from each other, which helps explain why the area suits specialist craft businesses. These are statements from the company and its trade press, not independent checks.
Roles in post-production include editors and assistant editors, colourists, dubbing mixers, sound editors, foley artists, runners and technical staff who run the equipment, project coordinators, producers, and finance and operations staff. Interests in film, television, music, sound, games, computing or electronics can all lead here. The company's website is the place to check for current vacancies.
