About Monica Vinader

Monica Vinader is a British jewellery brand that makes everyday fine and demi-fine jewellery, meaning pieces priced between costume jewellery and traditional fine jewellery. It sells necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings in gold and silver, with gemstones and lab-grown diamonds, through its own website and boutiques and through retailers including Selfridges, Liberty and John Lewis. Selected boutiques also offer piercing, engraving and welding services.

Monica Vinader was born in San Sebastian in Spain and moved to London to study fine art. She worked in the jewellery industry, left to travel in Patagonia and Mexico, built a network of artisans, began cutting her own gemstones, and launched the brand in 2008. The company describes itself as "everyday jewelry that makes you feel good" and says it wants to be the most responsible version of itself, designing jewellery that empowers and endures.

Where is it based? One Liberty London feature says the design studio has been in Norfolk for over two decades, near the brand's Holkham office, and the brand's own About page only says the founder moved to London. We therefore cannot call it a London company, and it is better described as a British brand with a Norfolk base and a presence in London shops and department stores. Its sustainability project "Monica's Meadow", begun in 2022, restores farmland near Holkham.

The company's culture is described mostly through its sustainability work. It says it uses 100% recycled gold and silver, 100% recyclable packaging, a five-year warranty, lifetime repairs and a jewellery recycling scheme. Its Product Passport traces a piece from design to sourcing and craftsmanship, and over 400 pieces carried one at the time of the Liberty article. It said its lab-grown diamonds use 100% renewable energy and aimed to power its offices, stores and warehouses with renewables by the end of 2025, a target we have not checked. It won Jewellery Business of the Year at the 2024 Positive Luxury Awards, its seventh sustainability award since 2021. The article also names the founder's sister, Gabriela, in the business.

A brand like this needs designers and product developers, sourcing and sustainability specialists, buyers who handle wholesale partners such as Selfridges, boutique sales and piercing staff, e-commerce, social media and marketing teams, and operations, finance and customer-service staff. If you enjoy design, craft, ethical business or building a brand, this is a good example of a company that treats materials and supply chains as part of the product.
