property consultancy with a large planning department · Architecture & Urban Planning

Montagu Evans

A UK property consultancy run by partners, with a large planning department of more than 100 people covering Central London, England, Wales and Scotland.

About Montagu Evans

Montagu Evans is a property consultancy, so it also does work that sits in other sectors such as valuation and agency (advising on buying, selling and letting). We include it here for its planning department, which its 2026 results announcement says has more than 100 people. The planning teams named are Commercial Planning, Central London, Housing and Land, Historic Environment and Townscape, and Scotland. Historic Environment and Townscape advises on how new building affects heritage and views, which is a good example of the specialist side of planning.

The firm says that "our purpose is to bring clarity, creativity, and conviction to the complex", and that it is built for "impact, not oversight". It describes its people as experts who "collaborate to create value, not just preserve it". It names four focus areas: Residential, Industrial and Logistics, Central London and Public Sector, and its current campaigns include Towns of Tomorrow, RetroFix (about reusing buildings) and Office Obsolescence Research. We did not find a founding year on the pages read.

It is based in London and, according to its announcement, its planning work covers Central London, England, Wales and Scotland, with a dedicated Scotland team. A separate trade report says it made a partner hire to boost its Scottish planning capability. The pages we read link to a locations page but do not list the offices, so we cannot say where each team sits.

The firm is run as a partnership, led by Managing Partner Alan Harris. Its April 2026 round was, the firm says, its largest ever, with 35 people promoted, including four to equity partner and six to salaried partner. John Weir is due to become Head of Planning in October 2026, succeeding Craig Blatchford, who stays on in a client-facing role. The firm also reports an 18 per cent increase in staff bonus awards. It holds ISO 14001, an environmental management standard. These are the firm's own figures, and the page gives no total headcount.

In the planning department, jobs include planners at different levels, heritage and townscape advisers, and administrators and researchers. In the rest of the firm there are surveyors, valuers, agents and rating specialists. Subjects such as geography, planning, history, architecture and economics lead to planning roles here, and the firm's partnership structure means a career can lead towards partner level.
