A London children's media company behind the CoComelon and Little Baby Bum YouTube channels and Blippi, with its head office in Camden.
Moonbug Entertainment is a children's media company that makes and shares video and audio for young viewers. Its brands include the YouTube channels CoComelon and Little Baby Bum, and series such as Blippi, Mia's Magic Playground, My Magic Pet Morphle, Supa Strikas and Care Bears: Unlock the Music. Moonbug Kids is its multi-channel network that shows content on platforms including YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and Roku.
Moonbug was co-founded in 2018 by Rene Rechtman, formerly of Maker Studios, and John Robson, formerly of WildBrain. We did not find a mission statement on the pages we read, so we cannot give one in the company's own words. It describes itself as a children's media company that creates and distributes content.
The headquarters is in London, and job listings place its office in Camden. It also has an office in Los Angeles. It is a subsidiary of Candle Media, which acquired it in 2021, and still operates as Moonbug. Rechtman is chief executive. David Levine was appointed to lead the studio in December 2020. Reports say the company had about 309 employees in 2021, and that it made some redundancies in late 2023 and closed a studio called One Animation in 2024, so the business has changed over time.
Behind the shows are teams who develop characters and songs, produce animation and live action, manage online channels and work with platforms. We did not find a description of its culture, so we are not able to say what it feels like to work there. The company has also faced public criticism, such as from the Ivors Academy and the Musicians' Union over royalties in 2022. That is part of the public record.
Children's media is a good example of how creative work meets technology and data. If you like characters, songs and storytelling for the very young, its channels are an easy way to see the output. Moonbug lists other brands including Qusay Frog, Little Angel, Lellobee City Farm and Oddbods, though Oddbods and Rob the Robot came through One Animation, which it closed in 2024. Candle Media, led by Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs, bought the company in November 2021. Its legal entities include El Bebe Productions Limited. Yitz Shmulewitz is listed as chief financial officer.
