A UK online greeting card and gift retailer, founded in 2000, known for personalised cards, flowers and gifts.
Moonpig is a UK online business that sells personalised greeting cards, flowers and gifts. Customers choose or design a card online or in an app, and Moonpig prints and posts it, often with a gift. It was one of the first online card companies in the UK, and the company is a listed business, with the Dutch brand Greetz in the same group.
Moonpig Group's stated purpose is to "create better, more personal, connections between people that care about each other". Its strategy is to become the ultimate gifting companion, and it describes itself as a technology and data platform. In the UK the group's brands are Moonpig, Buyagift and Red Letter Days. Founder Nick Jenkins says the name came from his school nickname.
Nick Jenkins founded Moonpig on 3 June 2000, and the website launched in July 2000. Wikipedia lists London as its head office, with an additional head office in Guernsey. It serves UK customers and says that by 2007 it accounted for about 90% of the UK online greeting card market. Moonpig launched during the dot-com bust and first turned a profit in 2005. It was bought by Photobox in 2011, separated from it in 2019 and listed on the London Stock Exchange in February 2021.
Moonpig has been through public difficulties as well as growth. In 2013 a developer found a flaw in its interface that exposed customer data, and the company did not act until it was disclosed publicly in January 2015. Today the business is a technology led retailer, so the people who work there include software engineers, data analysts, designers, marketers, customer service staff and operations and supply chain teams.
The group's investor pages say it has 12.3 million active customers and 1.2 million Plus subscription members as at 30 April 2026, and that the UK made up 82% of revenue in FY26, with the Netherlands next. It also says customers have set 101 million occasion reminders, that it has delivered over 50 million cards, gifts and bouquets, and that its subscription scheme is a core part of how people use the service. We did not find employee numbers, office addresses or culture statements from the company itself. For roles and culture, check Moonpig's own careers pages and employee reviews. Because the business works around occasions such as birthdays, Mother's Day and Christmas, the work is strongly seasonal.
