Morgan Motor Company

A family-linked British maker of hand-built sports cars, with ash-framed bodies, in Malvern Link, Worcestershire since the early 1900s.

About Morgan Motor Company

Morgan Motor Company builds sports cars by hand at its factory on Pickersleigh Road in Malvern Link, Worcestershire. It is known for cars with a wooden ash frame under aluminium bodywork, a method it has used for about a century. Models include the Plus Four, Plus Six, Super 3 and Supersport, and the original Three-Wheeler is still made.

H.F.S. Morgan designed his first car in 1909, and the company was founded in 1910. It was registered as a private limited company in 1912 and moved to its present factory site in 1913. The company says its three core materials are ash wood, aluminium and leather. The managing director Steve Morris said, "Craftsmanship remains at the heart of everything we do", and also that the firm tries to be "a very honest and personal company".

Everything happens in Malvern. Production is split between three areas: the wood shop, where craftspeople shape ash frames by hand using steam and wooden jigs; the tin shop, where aluminium panels are hand-beaten after laser cutting; and the trim shop, where each car needs at least four leather hides and over 30 hours of upholstery and trim work. Each car is hand-painted on site. The factory also has an Experience Centre and museum, tours, a dealership and a restaurant.

The company employs around 200 to 250 people, depending on the source, and built 630 cars in the year to September 2025. Morgan says it has a family atmosphere that extends to employees, customers and dealerships. Italian investment group InvestIndustrial acquired a majority stake in 2019, and the Morgan family is reported to have kept a minority shareholding. Morgan has also added technology such as laser cutting, which lets it respond to demand faster, while the ash frames, interiors and detailing are still done by hand. The 4/4, introduced in 1936, has stayed in production since, and the range has grown to include an all-electric Three-Wheeler and the 2026 Supersport 400. The Morgan Three Wheeler Club was formed in 1945, and fans in Australia affectionately call the cars "Moggies".

A small maker like this needs woodworkers, metalworkers, trimmers, painters, engineers, designers and visitor and sales teams. Morgan's own site and the Experience Centre are the best place to see how the work is organised today.
