About Morrison Telecom Services (M Group)

Morrison Telecom Services designs, builds and maintains telecoms networks. Its site says it focuses on the fixed telecom market and offers services across the whole life of a network for fixed, mobile and private operators. It reports delivering next-generation access technology to over five million homes across the UK and Ireland, and its expertise includes fibre to the home, G.fast and fibre to the cabinet, new-build areas, overlays and Openreach Physical Infrastructure Access. In its Openreach work, it carries out civil engineering, poling, cabling and jointing.

The company is part of M Group, and from April 2025 its pages say it joined M Group Telecom and operates under the M Group name, with no effect on existing contracts. It first won an Openreach contract in 2016 for the Superfast Extension Programme, and in 2020 it signed a five-year agreement, with a possible two-year extension, that focused on full fibre. That work covered parts of the East Midlands, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, East Anglia, Lancashire, Cumbria, Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. At the time, the company said around 850 engineers and support staff worked on it. Its clients also include water, energy and transport companies in the UK and Ireland.

Its pages give no head office address. The 2021 news item says it opened training and accreditation centres in Leyland in Lancashire, Risby in Suffolk and Blantyre in South Lanarkshire. The Risby site has an outdoor area built to look like a real street, with overhead and underground set-ups. In December 2020 the company announced 500 new engineering jobs, with regions listed as Scotland, Lancashire, Yorkshire, the East Midlands, East Anglia, Essex, West Sussex and Kent.

On culture, the company's page emphasises collaboration and long-term partnerships and working with clients to understand their goals. Pat Carolan, then managing director, said the company needed to "increase our skillset, upskill our existing people and attract new talent". In 2023, its parent group announced the transfer of 83 staff from a rival contractor. These are the company's own descriptions and press reports.

The roles include surveyors and designers who plan network routes, civil engineering teams who dig and lay ducts, poling teams, cable and fibre jointers, testing engineers who commission the network, supervisors and project managers, and trainers. Its site says it is recruiting network engineers, project managers and field technicians. Practical skills matter, so subjects such as engineering, construction, maths and IT are useful, but many roles are taught through training centres like those it has opened.
