A Brighton-founded online marketplace where people buy, sell and trade used cameras, lenses and video kit.
MPB is an online platform for buying, selling and trading second-hand photo and video equipment. Customers can sell or trade in their old cameras, lenses and accessories, and buy used kit that has been checked by specialists. It sets prices by make, model, condition and market, and gives a twelve-month warranty on used gear. MPB calls itself the simple, safe and circular way to trade, upgrade and get paid for kit.
In its own words, MPB aims to be the leading global platform for photographers and videographers to trade equipment, with the fastest and most personalised experience. Its purpose is to open up visual storytelling in a way that is good for people and the planet, and its chief operating officer has said the goal is to make photography more affordable and accessible. It also publishes kit guides, tips, interviews, competitions and MPB EDU, a creative education resource. Its careers site lists six values, including Passionately Ambitious, Agents of Change and Insight Driven.
MPB was founded by Matt Barker, who started it from his bedroom in Brighton in 2011. Its main UK offices are in Brighton's historic Lanes, and the company also has offices in Brooklyn and Berlin. The website footer lists MPB Europe Ltd as the UK company, and its careers site describes roles in Brighton on a hybrid basis. The company says it recirculates 570,000 items a year, and its careers page says it has more than 450 people worldwide.
Every item that comes through MPB is checked by a product specialist, who confirms the model, writes a description and takes detailed photos, so many staff are photographers and videographers themselves. The leadership team listed on the careers site includes Matt Barker as chief executive and founder, Frank Sullivan as chief operating officer and Sophie Davies-Patrick as chief technology officer. MPB says its benefits package was built from feedback from its people, with separate benefits pages for the UK, Germany and the US.
Roles listed at the time we looked sat in Product, Data and Analytics, Technology, Finance and Customer Experience, for example AI product and automation roles and an accounts payable supervisor, all in Brighton. The company also says it publishes original content and runs competitions, so writers, video makers and community staff are part of the mix. Staff numbers and role lists change, so check the MPB careers site for the latest.
