About MSC UK

MSC UK is the UK business of the Mediterranean Shipping Company, one of the world's biggest container shipping lines. Its own material says it is the UK's largest container shipping, intermodal and logistics provider. It offers ocean freight, with more than 29 weekly sailings across 10 UK ports, plus inland transport using what it calls the largest shipping-line intermodal offer in the UK. That means moving containers on from the port by train and lorry. It says it has 11 depots, 11 rail terminals, 7 contract trains and over 800 trucks, and it runs an online service, MyMSC, for booking and tracking.

MSC UK says it started in 1977 as a five-person operation above a shoe shop in Hull. It describes itself as a family company that focuses on long-term customer relationships and on listening to customers' needs. Its managing director, Dan Everitt, said in 2023 that the company's expansion reflects its commitment to local community, people and infrastructure. The company also says it wants to build resilient and inclusive supply chains that benefit colleagues, crew, customers and communities. We did not find a formal mission statement, so we have quoted its own descriptions instead.

The UK head office is at Ransomes Europark in Ipswich, Suffolk, where MSC opened an additional office building in July 2023, its fourth on the site. The company also has regional offices in London and Glasgow. The ports it names include Felixstowe, London Gateway, Southampton, Liverpool, Immingham, Teesport, Grangemouth, Greenock, Portbury and the Port of Tyne. Its 2023 news item says the Ipswich head office has over 850 employees, while its 2025 guide says the dedicated UK team is more than 750 professionals, so the exact total depends on how the count is made.

On culture, the 2023 announcement mentions a staff restaurant and an informal meeting area in the new building, and Mr Everitt said the company wants to strengthen its ties with Ipswich and support local jobs. The company describes its approach as customer excellence and tailored solutions. These are the company's own claims. The guide also says specialists include reefer (refrigerated cargo) specialists, project cargo professionals and customs clearance officers, which shows the range of expertise behind the sailings.

The work at MSC UK covers customer service and sales teams who help importers and exporters, operations and vessel-planning staff, intermodal and haulage planners, depot and trucking teams, customs clearance officers (the company holds AEO accreditation, a trusted-trader status), reefer and project-cargo specialists, and finance, IT and people teams. Since many everyday goods, from white goods to food and drink, arrive in containers, working here means being close to the supply chain that keeps UK shops stocked.
