A Grimsby-based maker of smart home energy products, best known for the zappi electric vehicle charger that can run on solar power.
myenergi designs and manufactures home energy products, mainly for households with solar panels. Its best-known product is zappi, an electric vehicle charger that can charge from the grid, wind or solar power. Alongside it sit eddi, which sends spare renewable energy into home heating, libbi, a modular home battery launched in 2022, and harvi, a wireless sensor that monitors energy use. One app ties the devices together.
The company says its aim is to make it easy for ordinary households to move to renewable energy through a connected home energy system, which it calls "a simple, accessible, and convenient eco-system". It also says it wants to save customers money and give them more energy independence. It describes sustainability as part of how it runs its own operations, not only what it sells.
myenergi was founded in October 2016 by Lee Sutton and Jordan Brompton. Lee is an electrical engineer who had run renewable energy technology companies before; the idea began when he wondered whether he could charge his electric car from his own solar panels. Jordan brought sustainability networks and marketing experience. The business began in a small countryside workshop and is now based at a purpose-built eco facility at Pioneer Business Park, Stallingborough, near Grimsby, in the Humber Freeport area. A 66,000 square foot production facility is being added to bring UK operations together.
The company says it has grown from a team of two to more than 400 staff, with over 500,000 products sold worldwide and more than 3,000 approved zappi installers. It also has subsidiaries in Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands and Australia. Its four stated values are positivity and pride, teamwork and kindness, open and honest communication, and empowerment and responsibility. These are the company's own claims, so ask about them when you meet the team.
Recognition includes a StartUps 100 win in 2021 and a ranking of ninth in the Sunday Times 100 in 2022. It is also worth knowing that zappi was the product that started the business, so the whole range grew from one engineer's question about charging a car from his own roof. A company like this employs engineers, product designers, manufacturing and production staff, software developers, customer support, installer training and sales and marketing teams, which makes it a useful example of how a clean-energy product business is put together.
