The electricity network operator for the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, with a 27-month graduate and technical trainee programme and engineering apprenticeships.
Northern Powergrid runs the electricity network serving about 8 million people across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. Its engineers and technicians keep the lights on and connect new homes, businesses and low-carbon technology.
We did not find a formal mission statement. Its graduate listing talks about attracting a diverse group of high-calibre people, investing in smart technology and building a low-carbon network for future generations.
Graduate listings show training sites in places including Shiremoor (Tyneside), York and Hull, and the programme places trainees at locations across its region. A full UK driving licence is needed by the start date.
We did not find independent culture information. An apprenticeship news article says its apprenticeship was rated Outstanding by Ofsted, which is the company's claim as reported by a further education news site.
The Graduate and Technical Trainee Programme lasts 27 months with structured placements and a Level 4 Electrical Power Network Engineer apprenticeship. The 2026 listing gave a starting salary of £37,643 (pay award pending), rising to about £44,500 on completion. Entry is a degree in engineering, physics, maths or computer science, or a Level 4 or 5 qualification such as an HNC plus two years of industry experience. Applications closed on 1 March 2026 for a 12 October 2026 start. A three-year Power Engineer apprenticeship with a company-funded foundation degree was advertised in February 2023.
