About Oliver Wyman

Oliver Wyman is a management consulting firm that advises companies on improving performance, managing risk and changing how they work. It works across many industries but is best known for financial services, such as banks and insurers. Wikipedia says it has more than 60 offices across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, and that it has also advised on topics from healthcare and energy to transport and travel.

It was founded in New York in 1984 as Oliver, Wyman & Company by Alex Oliver and Bill Wyman, who had both been partners at Booz Allen Hamilton, starting with six consultants (Wikipedia). The firm's roots go back to earlier consultancies, and the modern firm took shape in 2003 when Marsh & McLennan acquired it and combined it with Mercer's financial services units. It became Mercer Oliver Wyman, then Oliver Wyman as a unified brand in 2007. Its head office is in New York City, and it is part of Marsh, which has recently adopted a single Marsh brand. Ted Moynihan was named CEO in 2026.

Oliver Wyman describes itself, through its parent group, as bringing together risk, reinsurance and capital, people and investments, and management consulting, "building the confidence to thrive through the power of perspective". We did not find a separate mission statement or list of values. Its history page records the launch in 2019 of the Oliver Wyman Forum, a platform for business, public policy and social enterprise leaders, and a commitment to net zero emissions across its operations by 2050.

Wikipedia reports that clients have included the European Central Bank, the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund, that it reviewed the LIBOR benchmark rate for the British Bankers' Association, and that it advised on the 2012 Spanish bank bailout. Its Data & Analytics unit began in 2017 in Newcastle upon Tyne and, according to UK jobs listings, has more than 50 people there and has expanded to Milan, Berlin, Madrid and Athens. It works with industries including financial services, insurance, retail and transport.

That unit offered a Data & Analytics Apprenticeship starting in September 2026: three years and two months of work on real projects, ending with a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions (Data Analytics). Apprentices support project delivery by forming hypotheses, collecting data, building models, running analyses and presenting insights, with training and coaching. It asks for relevant study in a quantitative subject, an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths), strong communication and excellent English. The closing date was 13 March 2026, so that round is closed, and no salary is stated. A Summer Internship 2027 in London is open to penultimate-year students of any degree subject, with no consulting experience needed, CV and cover letter, and conversational and case interviews. The listing gives conflicting deadlines (30 September 2026 and 15 January 2027), so check Oliver Wyman's site. Staff are expected in the office or at clients at least three days a week.
