ONS Data Science Campus

The Data Science Campus, part of the Office for National Statistics, which applies data science and AI to official statistics and public policy.

About ONS Data Science Campus

The Data Science Campus is part of the Office for National Statistics. It tests and uses data science and AI methods and new data sources to improve the statistics that government uses to manage the UK economy.

Its stated mission is to make the ONS, HM Government and other national statistical institutes more efficient and resilient, and to build data science skills across the public sector and internationally. Its vision is a "National Statistical Institute of the Future".

Its main base is the ONS office in Newport, South Wales. It also has offices in Darlington, London, Manchester and Titchfield, plus a data science hub in the FCDO office in East Kilbride.

The page we read does not describe staff or culture. A 2018 news item showed the ONS recruiting the UK's first data analytics apprentices, so apprenticeships have been part of its approach.

The Campus page links to a Careers at the Campus page but gives no early-career details. Check the ONS and Civil Service Jobs sites for current roles and requirements.
