The UK operation of a US power and sensing semiconductor company, with a design centre in Bracknell, Berkshire, working on image sensors for cars and medical devices.
onsemi makes semiconductors, the chips that control and measure electricity and light in machines. Its products include power devices (including silicon carbide, which wastes less energy in electric vehicle systems), analog and mixed-signal chips, microcontrollers, and image and optical sensors. It organises its work into three groups: Analog and Mixed-Signal, Intelligent Sensing and Power Solutions. Its main markets are cars, industrial equipment, communications, computing, consumer products, medical devices and aerospace and defence. The company lists more than 25,000 different products.
onsemi was formed in 1999 as a spin-off of Motorola's semiconductor components group in Phoenix, Arizona, and went public in 2000. It was called ON Semiconductor until it rebranded as onsemi in August 2021, and it is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. Its stated aim is to build a better tomorrow through intelligent technology, with a focus on the planet, communities and people, and its tagline is "Intelligent Technology. Better Future." The company says it plans to reach net-zero emissions by 2040 and signed the UN Global Compact in 2019.
In the UK, the site we could confirm is the Bracknell design centre in Berkshire. onsemi's careers page describes it as one of three international design centres focused only on high-end automotive and medical image sensor design, with teams working on analog, digital and firmware design for fully integrated sensors. A 2017 announcement said the centre was opened as a sensor fusion design centre to extend onsemi's image sensor work for driver assistance and automated driving, and that the team had more than 1,200 years of combined silicon design experience. A UK-registered company, On Semiconductor Limited, is based in London, and the group's other UK interests were not checked.
On culture, onsemi's UK careers page says it looks for "smarter people to build a high-performance team" and that Bracknell colleagues work closely with teammates in America, Europe and Asia. It describes its chief executive as wanting people who "want a challenge and want to change the world". Benefits it lists include personal development support, flexible and home working, healthcare and life insurance, and an employee assistance programme. These are the company's own claims.
The work in Bracknell is design engineering: people who work on analog circuits, digital logic and firmware for image sensors, the cameras that let cars see lane markings, pedestrians and signs. Around those teams a large company also needs project managers, test and validation engineers, finance, legal and other support. The group has about 22,600 employees worldwide as at December 2025, but a UK-only headcount was not found.
