Construction reality-capture software company · Built Environment & Construction

OpenSpace

A construction-technology company, headquartered in San Francisco with a UK and Northern Europe team, whose 360-degree cameras and software record building sites and track progress.

About OpenSpace

OpenSpace makes software that turns video from a building site into a record that anyone on the project can look at from a desk. Workers capture 360-degree footage while they walk the site, and the platform uses artificial intelligence and computer vision to place that footage on the building plans. Teams use it to document what has been built, track progress, coordinate work, manage tasks and check against the 3D building model, a tool it calls BIM+. It also links with the Procore project-management system. Its stated aim, in a UK team post, is to bridge the gap between the field and the office.

The company says its tools help commercial builders work more productively while reducing exposure to risk. We did not find a longer mission statement, or the names of its founders, in the pages we read, so we have not invented them. Its press materials describe customers such as JLL, AECOM and RG Construction, and it reports its customers have captured billions of square feet of building space.

OpenSpace has a dedicated UK and Northern Europe team led by regional manager Tamas Borodi. A press release dated London in August 2024 announced that McLaren Construction, a contractor with about 950 staff across the UK and UAE, had chosen OpenSpace after a competitive tender, starting on test projects and planning to roll it out across its major UK projects. Other UK and Irish firms named in the team's 2024 review include BW Workplace Experts, TClarke, King & Moffatt, Mace, Robertson and JJ Rhatigan. The company's global headquarters address is in San Francisco, and the UK team described itself as fully remote, so we did not find a UK office.

The December 2024 team post gives a glimpse of the culture. The UK and Northern Europe group meets face to face every quarter for reviews, planning and social time, and padel became a team tradition in July 2024. It attended events such as Digital Construction Week in London, London Build and Digital Construction North, and ran webinars on topics including the Building Safety Act's "golden thread" of building information. That is the team's own account.

The roles in a firm like this include account executives and customer success staff who work with contractors, technical and product specialists, software engineers, marketing and events teams, and partnerships staff who connect with other construction software. Knowing how a building site works is a real advantage for the customer-facing jobs, so a background in construction, surveying or engineering can lead into technology.
