Orbital Witness

A London company whose AI platform helps lawyers and property professionals check property title and risk.

About Orbital Witness

Orbital Witness, now trading as Orbital, makes software that helps lawyers and property professionals check a property before it is bought or sold. This checking is called due diligence. Orbital pulls together mapping, property records and legal data to show the legal risks attached to a building or plot of land, and it also offers an AI assistant for legal professionals. Its mission, in its own words, is to make property transactions radically more transparent, quick and easy.

The company was founded in 2018 in London. Will Pearce is co-founder and chief executive, and Edmond Boulle is co-founder and chief strategy officer. It began from the belief that property due diligence was trapped in the past. An early product used archives of satellite pictures to show how a site had changed over time, for example a change of use or a moved boundary, combined with data such as HM Land Registry information. The European Space Agency's Space Solutions programme helped develop it, and in 2020 it won IT Product of the Year at the British Legal Technology Awards. Its headquarters is on Clerkenwell Road in Farringdon, London, and it has a New York office.

An early aim was a Universal Risk Rating, a single score that could automate due diligence across property deals. The company says its platform serves thousands of lawyers and commercial property professionals in the UK and US.

Its products are Orbital Witness, a platform that analyses title information and risk, and Orbital Copilot, an AI assistant for legal professionals built on large AI models that helps lawyers produce reports from property documents. Early on it also aimed to reach insurers and surveyors.

A job-board profile says Orbital has between 21 and 100 employees and had grown about 44% over a year, and plans to grow in the US. Its teams include customer success, legal engineering, product, product engineering and sales. It lists its values as Question or Commit, Power to our People, Bold and ambitious, and Eat that frog (tackle the hardest job first). It says it values diverse teams and encourages applications from people underrepresented in tech. These are the company's own claims. London roles asked for one to five office days a week. The roles we saw were for experienced engineers, product managers and sales and customer staff, with one business development representative post; we found no graduate or apprenticeship scheme, so check its careers page.
