Ørsted UK

The UK arm of Danish offshore wind company Ørsted, with over 1,300 UK employees and a three-year wind turbine technician apprenticeship in Grimsby and Barrow.

About Ørsted UK

Ørsted is a renewable energy company best known for offshore wind. In the UK it operates offshore wind farms, and its apprenticeship trains people to safely operate and maintain wind turbines.

Ørsted's wider stated vision is a world that runs entirely on green energy. Its UK careers page says it is "driving the renewable energy transition here in the UK".

Its UK careers page reports more than 1,300 employees and names Barrow-in-Furness, Grimsby (the East Coast Hub), Liverpool, Brightlingsea and London, with vacancies also listed in places such as Belfast, Edinburgh and Northwich. A February 2024 news release said apprentices work at its 12 offshore wind farms on the East and West Coasts.

Ørsted says it wants to bring out the best in employees by helping them grow and share their talent, and lists benefits such as pension, private medical and dental cover, a well-being allowance and cycle-to-work. These are Ørsted's own claims.

The UK Apprenticeship Programme lasts three years in Grimsby and Barrow, combines classroom learning with on-the-job experience, and asks for GCSEs or equivalent. In 2024 the release asked for applicants aged at least 16 (no upper age limit) with three GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including maths, English and science or a technical subject, and said apprentices gain a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician qualification. Ørsted had trained 70 UK apprentices since 2017. Its separate Trainee Programme is based in Denmark, not the UK. We found no pay figures or current UK graduate scheme.
