An Oxfordshire maker of medical devices with factories in Woodstock and Chipping Norton and a long-running apprenticeship programme.
Owen Mumford designs and makes medical devices. Our sources describe factories in Woodstock and Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, where one apprentice trained as a tooling engineer. We did not read a page describing its product range, so check the company website.
We did not find a mission statement. A technical trainer quoted in a 2020 article said apprenticeship programmes are "an important way to address the skills shortage our industry faces."
The site evidence is two Oxfordshire factories at Woodstock and Chipping Norton. A local business news site and the Oxfordshire LEP also mention the company, which suggests it is well known in the county. We did not find a headcount.
We did not find independent culture information. One apprentice, Meg Denham, said she especially enjoyed "seeing how all of Owen Mumford's departments fit together." That is one person's view from a company press release.
In December 2020 the company said it planned to hire 2 to 4 apprentices a year and wanted more women to consider engineering apprenticeships. Meg's four-year tooling engineer apprenticeship included three NVQs and a level 4 qualification, and the company is paying for her degree-level course in manufacturing engineering. A graduate design engineer listing also appeared in search results but we could not read it. This evidence is dated (as at 2020); check the company's careers page.
