An Oxford-headquartered science and engineering tools company with UK sites in Oxfordshire, Belfast, Bristol and High Wycombe and a large apprenticeship programme.

About Oxford Instruments

Oxford Instruments makes high-technology tools for science and industry. A medtech guide did not list it, and we did not find a page showing how much of its work is healthcare, so check before assuming a role is medical. It is included here because its tools support research that medical technology depends on, which we have not confirmed from its own pages.

We did not find a mission statement. Its Chief HR Officer said of its apprenticeships: "What really sets our apprenticeships apart is the opportunity to be involved in meaningful projects from day one."

A February 2023 company news item names four main UK manufacturing sites: the head office at Tubney Woods outside Oxford, Andor in Belfast, Plasma Technology in Bristol and NanoAnalysis in High Wycombe. It says the company was founded in 1959 and had over 1,200 employees in the UK and 2,000 globally.

We did not find independent culture information. The company describes its apprenticeship training as "well-paid, high-quality training", which is its own claim.

In 2023 it announced 25 apprenticeships, each lasting up to four years, from post-school level up to graduate-level apprenticeships, in manufacturing, engineering, software development and marketing. About 40 people were already on apprenticeships. Job-site listings in search results also show mechanical engineering apprentice roles and a software engineer Year in Industry placement for 2025 to 2026, though we did not read those in full. Pay and entry requirements were not stated.
