An Oxford-based company that makes DNA and RNA sequencing devices which read genetic material directly, from lab benches to portable field kits.
Oxford Nanopore Technologies develops technology that reads single molecules, such as DNA and RNA, by passing them through tiny holes called nanopores. Scientists use its sequencing devices to study genes, track diseases and explore living things.
Its stated aim is to enable "the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere". We did not find a separate list of company values on the pages we read.
The company is based at Oxford Science Park in Oxford, UK. A 2011 company announcement also described an informatics (data) site at Chesterford Research Park near Cambridge, so check the current careers site for today's locations.
The company says it focuses on hiring newly graduated scientists and that about 40% of its workforce is aged 34 or younger. That is the company's own claim, so ask about team make-up at interview.
Its early careers page lists internships and placements at all stages of undergraduate and postgraduate study, from shorter 3 to 9 month placements up to a full year in industry. It also offers short work experience for local school students in Years 10 to 13, but places are limited and speculative applications are unlikely to succeed. The 2026 internship round had closed as at October 2026. We did not find apprenticeships or a graduate scheme on that page.
